History
The oldest known human settlement organized at St. Mamas was on the namesake region which already existed in 5000 BC   inhabited by the end of the Neolithic period to the Bronze and Iron in successive layers. This is one of the most important prehistoric sites in Halkidiki on terms of period of residence and size. To the west of the region was  identified an organized cemetery of the Early Bronze Age, the oldest cemetery ever found in Macedonia. The new excavation is in progress but already brought to light interesting findings in the field of prehistoric architecture and pottery.

For the existence of the village and even with the same name the oldest known evidence comes from Mount Athos documents 1047 BC

In 1423 Agios Mamas was subjugated by the Ottomans and in the mid 15th century the village belonged to an Ottoman prince (Michael Bey). In 1821 the villagers of Agios Mamas took active part in the Greek revolution.

The village took its name from St. Mamas.
Agios Mamas was born in Gangra Paphlagonia in 260 AD by Christian parents, when they were in prison, where he died praying. So mamas, babies even, orphaned. But a rich Christian woman adopted him and nursed him tenderly maternal and in the spirit of the Gospel. Because he called the adoptive mother constantly Mama they named him Mamas.

When he turned 15 years old, was caught by pagans because without fear, publicly confessed Christ. Then they beat him mercilessly. Hung around his neck leaden weight and threw him into the sea. But with the power of God was saved. After they arrested him again and threw him in burning furnace and then fed him to the beasts. But because he was miraculously survived, they penetrated his abdomen with a spear.

Agios Mamas has long and wide beach. For someone to reach the beach of Agios Mamas, there are two ways: either to continue south of Nea Moudania for 5.5 km and turn left carefully to the shoreline just before Potidaia or continue east of the intersection of Nea Moudania meet at 3.5 km the village of Agios Mamas and down south to the beach which is 2 km away. It all depends on where the visitor wants to get the to this 7 km long beach. It is a vast beach which someone can visit all the way, from the Potidaia up the creek of Vatounia or even reach Kalives, if he knows the area. The whole road is unpaved but in good condition and can be visited by car. There are beach bars along the beach but far apart. In some places there are some places where you can eat but not everywhere.
